Inspired by whale songs, the title of this piece comes from the tradition that many composers wrote passacaglia-form-music with a repetitive bass gesture to indicate death and sacrifice. In this case, the idea of death refers to the reducing number of whales through whaling and other harmful activities. Through a whale songs audio sculpture analysis, a chord progression and bass line have been created that is hiding and repeating throughout the entire piece. The last section not only expresses the shape of the fishtail in terms of the register but also implies the phenomenon of whale fall, which is the natural process of the whale’s death.
